Pedestrian Killed on I-880 in Overnight Darkness

OAKLAND, CA — A pedestrian was killed in a traffic collision on a highway near Oakland's Fruitvale neighborhood this morning, California Highway Patrol officers said.
At about 2:23 a.m., dispatchers received multiple calls reporting that a pedestrian had been hit on northbound Interstate Highway 880, just north of the Coliseum Way on-ramp.
The driver then called CHP to report that he had struck this pedestrian before pulling over and waiting for officers to arrive.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The Alameda County coroner is set to arrive shortly, CHP officers said.
The fourth lane on the highway is currently closed. No further information was immediately available.
