Piedmont Firefighters Sent to Wildfire That's Already Destroyed 100 Buildings [Video]

Firefighters from cities, the county and regional agencies throughout the East Bay have mobilized to join the fire lines in Lake County as the just-ignited Clayton Fire exploded from a spark to more than 3,000 acres, with more than 100 structures burned. The fire is moving so fast that Calfire doesn't have an exact count of homes and other structures that have been reduced to ash. In addition, mandatory evacuations are in place.

Calfire crews are weary — going from one wildfire to the next — and California's Mutual Aid system has been key to keeping enough fresh firefighters and equipment in the fight.

Several roads in Lake County are closed because of the fire and firefighting efforts. Multiple evacuation centers have been opened to take in residents who fled the wildfire with little notice. PG&E has lost poles, lines and other equipment. In addition, the utility has shut off power in some areas to protect firefighters from live wires.

More than a dozen air tankers and helicopters have joined the fight.
