Public Hearing on Backyard Chickens Monday

The Piedmont Planning Commission will hold a public hearing Monday evening on potential amendments to the city's zoning code to regulate the keeping of chickens.

The Piedmont Planning Commission has scheduled a public hearing on backyard chickens at the end of its lengthy agenda for Monday's meeting.

The hearing, technically "a discussion of potential amendments to the provisions of Chapter 17 (the City’s Zoning Code) related to chicken coops and the keeping of chickens in Piedmont," is item #14 on the agenda. It's preceded by several requests for zoning variances, design review and second unit approval.

The hearing comes at the request of local resident Martha Bureau, who also submitted a petition signed by 26 Piedmont residents asking the city to consider regulating chickens.
