"Raining Books"

Havens Students donate books to East Bay Agency for Children

The 3rd Annual Havens Elementary Back to School Book drive was a huge success! There were over 20 bins and boxes of donated books, so many that they did not fit in the EBAC representative's car when she came to pick them up! Development Director Julie West told her program directors "It's raining books" and found appreciative homes for all the books. "Your wonderful donations have found new homes in the hands of children and parents for whom having books to read at home is not a given," she said.

Reading at home is one of the best predictors of academic success for children. Yet, many children in Oakland have few, if any, books at home.  East Bay Agency for Children (EBAC) offers children living in these under-resourced neighborhoods many support services to help them achieve academic success.  Books collected through Haven’s school-wide book drive will be distributed to these children so they, too, may read at home.

Havens Community Service Crew is proud that our students could contribute this much needed resource to the community. To learn more about us, email havenscrew@gmail.com
