OAKLAND, CA — Quick trivia from East Bay Regional Park District: "The naming of the rainbow trout species was based on fish taken from the San Leandro Creek drainage, which includes Redwood Creek." How about that!

Have you hiked in Redwood Regional Park? The photo above, snapped by Patch reader Suzee Meno, may convince you to grab your hiking boots or comfy tennies and head out on a jaunt through nature. The park includes stands of 150 foot coast redwood trees — new growth redwoods that have flourished since Gold Rush-era logging.

Redwood Regional Park is joined to Anthony Chabot, Lake Chabot and Knowland parks, joined together to make a massive open space.
