Rounding the Bases–Youth Baseball Game Results

In the past week's youth baseball action, one player hits through the cycle and another Piedmont team logs a win despite their opponent turning a rare triple play.

MUSTANG (Age 9-10)

Piedmont Spartans 10, Piedmont A's 1: Joe Sassi hit for the cycle! The Spartans pitched and defended well. Walter Teitelbaum, Charlie Foster, and Sid Gala all pitched great innings. Griffin Ashburn made another sterling play in center field for the Spartans. Ethan Crowley pitched, caught, and hit well for the A's.

PONY (Age 13-14)

Piedmont Scots 10, Danville 1: In the first game of a double header, great hitting and solid defense helped the Scots in their winning effort. Eric Mura, Sophie Baker, and Austin Willis scored two each. Greenstein also contributed a pair of doubles. Danville turned a rare triple play against the Scots in the fourth inning. The Scots were undeterred and scored three in the fifth and five in the sixth to put the game away.

Danville 14, Piedmont Scots 11: In the second game of a double header, the Scots got off to a slow start. Danville kept the Scots hitless through four and a half innings while building a 10-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth the Scots sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight runs. Ricky Peters started the inning with a single followed by Sophie Baker, Dylan Porter, Michael Greenstein, Connor Addiego, Louie Gerhardy, Gus Gilbert, Eric Mura, Bennett Barnes, and Garrett Keating all reaching safely on sharp hits. Addiego successfully stole home in the inning. The Scots added a run in the sixth only to be matched by Danville with a solo run in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh Addiego and Gerhardy started the inning with consecutive singles. After the pair stole second and third, Devan Joseph hit a single plating Addiego and Gehardy to tie the game at 11. The Scots loaded the bases in the eighth but excellent pitching and defense by Danville kept the Scots off the board. After two innings of exciting but scoreless play, Danville scored three in the top of the 10th.
