Save the Date: Inspiring Advanced Learners

Dr. James Webb will talk about "Inspiring and Nurturing Advanced Learners" on Oct. 17.

Piedmont GPS will present "Inspiring and Nurturing Advanced Learners: An Evening with Dr. James Webb," a fundraiser to support advanced learners in Piedmont schools, on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the Alan Harvey Theater, Piedmont High School, 800 Magnolia Ave.

Dr. Webb is a leader in the fields of parenting and psychology. He has been recognized nationally as one of the 24 most influential psychologists on gifted education. He will speak to parents on how to engage kids who learn easily at school but may develop self-defeating behaviors and attitudes, including underachievement, discipline problems, anxiety, and depression. Dr. Webb will offer practical advice on how to:

• Promote self-motivation, self-discipline, self-esteem, and resiliency

• Improve peer relationships

Dr. Webb will be addressing Piedmont teachers earlier in the afternoon.

Dr. Webb is author of numerous articles and five books, including Misdiagnosis and Dual Diagnoses of Gifted Children and Adults, and Guiding the Gifted Child: A Practical Source for Parents and Teachers. He is founder of the SENG, the national association for Supporting Emotional Needs of Gifted.

A frequent keynote and workshop speaker at state and national conferences, Dr. Webb, a licensed and board-certified psychologist, has appeared on Good Morning AmericaCBS Sunday MorningThe Phil Donahue Show, CNN, and National Public Radio. He has served on the Board of Directors for the National Association for Gifted Children and was President of the American Association for Gifted Children. Currently, Dr. Webb is president of Great Potential Press in Tucson, AZ.
