Skater from Piedmont High School Snagged Silver Medal at the 2015 National US Figure Skating Championships
Skater From Piedmont High School Kevin Shum
Kevin Shum, a Senior at Piedmont High School, won the Junior Men’s silver medal at the 2015 US Figure Skating Championships in Greensboro, NC on Jan 23, 2015. He was one of the three men selected to represent Team USA at the 2015 World Junior Championships, scheduled to be held from March 2-8, 2015 in Tallinn, Estonia. This will be Kevin’s second year on Team USA and competing on the international level.
Kevin is a 17-year old senior at Piedmont High School, where he is currently enrolled full-time with a cumulative GPA of 4.38. He trains in Oakland, CA, and is coached by Justin Dillon. For this season, he is skating to a tango piece entitled “Invierno porteno” by Astor Piazzolla and selections from the Thor: The Dark World soundtrack.
Kevin has been skating since the age of five (5) at the Oakland Ice Center. For the past 12 years, the Oakland Ice Center has been like his second home.

On Saturday, February 14, 2015, the Oakland Ice Center will be partnering with the Bay Area Rising to raise money for several non-profit agencies in the Bay Area. Kevin Shum, along with Nina Oullette, the 2015 bronze medalist, and the U.C. Berkeley Figure Skating Team, will be featured at the Oakland Ice Center on Valentine’s Day. The event begins at 7 p.m. and is hosted by the Oakland Ice Center and the Bay Area Rising to raise money for Prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls.
