SLIDESHOW: The Blair Park Saga

A look at the images of the longest council session devoted to Piedmont's most contentious issue.

The Piedmont City Council took a definitive stride toward a Blair Park athletic field development Tuesday, but it’s not a final commitment — the council is due to discuss the issue again April 4.

The council resolution asked for the presentation of more traffic ideas to ensure safety as young athletes and their parents cross Moraga Avenue back and forth from the new field at Blair Park and the existing Coaches Playfield.

The council heard from about 55 speakers before it started its deliberations. The council took up consideration of the Blair Park plan at 7:35 p.m. Monday and passed the resolution described above at 2:47 a.m. Tuesday.

Our featured photo shows, front and center, Jack Olander, 12, a Piedmont middle schooler who was the youngest to speak at the hearing. He said he was concerned about the safety of crossing Moraga Avenue at the proposed crosswalk with a pedestrian-activated flashing light.
