What Should Go in Red Crow Yoga?

Red Crow Yoga is closing down and we would like to know what you would like to see in that space.

I spoke with the owner Andy Matinog to find out why he’s closing the yoga studio.  There were a couple main reasons.  He’s been dealing with a family illness that’s required him to travel to L.A. regularly and it’s been difficult for him to concentrate on growing the business at the same time.

They also just started about a year ago so they’re business hasn’t really gotten off the ground yet.  This was Andy’s first business and there were many challenges he faced that he didn’t quite expect.

I can actually relate because my first business was in a not so different type of business.  My wife and I started a martial arts studio in 2001.  It was one of the most stressful experiences in my life but somehow we did eventually make it work, but we came close to closing it down so many times.

Not knowing what the yoga market is like in the Grand Lake area I was first a bit surprised that a yoga studio would struggle there.  But Andy said there were four yoga studios on or near Grand Ave.  He also heard someone when walking by say, “...not another yoga studio.”

This is the type of thing where Spotmojo is trying to help.  It doesn’t help the neighborhood when there’s four yoga studios when they only need two.  And it doesn’t help the owners of those yoga studios to spend their life savings just to find out the neighborhood didn’t need them.

We want to hear what people want and use that information and match it with people who want to open those types of businesses.  So, people get what they want and businesses have a much better chance to succeed.

Piedmont Patch is working with Spotmojo to collect your ideas for filling vacancies.  Michael Hsueh is the co-founder of Spotmojo.  Spotmojo is a website where you can suggest the businesses you want where you live, work, or play.  The suggestions are used to help new businesses find the perfect location.  This gives you a voice in the businesses that open in your neighborhood and it helps local businesses succeed.
