Where the Jobs Are — and Where They Aren't: February Unemployment Rates in the East Bay
The unemployment rate in Alameda and Contra Costa counties was flat between January and February 2012 but lower than a year ago. Piedmont's unemployment rate for February 2012 was 5 percent.

The unemployment rate in the East Bay for February 2012 was 9.6 percent, identical to January 2012 but lower than the estimated 10.8 percent rate for February of last year, according to figures released Friday by the state Employment Development Department (EDD).
This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 11.4 percent for California and 8.7 percent for the nation during the same period. The unemployment rate was 9.5 percent in Alameda County and 9.6 percent in Contra Costa County.
According to EDD figures, the Ferbuary 2012 unemployment rate for Piedmont was 5 percent, with 300 persons jobless out of a total labor force of 5,500.
