$1,000 Reward Offered For Person Who Scattered Thumb Tacks at Dog Park

HERCULES, CA - After police said more than 200 thumbtacks were found in a Hercules dog park last week, the group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is offering an incentive to find the person responsible.

The thumbtacks were found by visitors to Ohlone Dog Park at 190 Turquoise Drive starting on Feb. 5, according to police.

Officers responded on Saturday and confirmed the reports.

Hercules police said this is not the first time this has been reported.

PETA officials said the thumbtacks injured two dogs.

PETA officials today announced that a letter was sent to Hercules police offering $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects. Anyone who may have information about a potential suspect has been asked to call Hercules police at (510) 799-8260.

“All dogs desire and deserve a safe, protected space in which to run, explore and interact with other dogs,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement.

There’s also another $1,000 that’s being offered by the group for the installation of security cameras at the park, according to PETA. “PETA hopes the police will install cameras and that anyone who can help nab the person or persons responsible for trying to harm dogs will come forward right away,” Ingrid said.
