2 Teen Boys Extricated from Car That Crashed into Tree in Hercules, Two Others Injured

Two teen boys were extricated from a car that crashed into a tree in Hercules on Friday afternoon, a battalion chief said. Firefighters responded to Refugio Valley Road near Pheasant Drive for a reported car accident off the roadway where a person was trapped around 2:45 p.m., Pinole fire Battalion Chief Steve Akre said. Emergency crews arrived to find the car was on an embankment facing the opposite direction of traffic, he said.

An 18-year-old man driving the car and his 17-year-old passenger sitting in the rear seat were trapped in the vehicle and both suffered serious injuries, according to Akre. Both were extricated and transported to John Muir Medical Center trauma center in Walnut Creek, he said. The driver suffered serious head, torso and extremity injuries and the passenger was treated for serious extremity injuries, Akre said.

Two other teen passengers in the car were not injured, the battalion chief said. It appeared the driver lost control of the car, struck another car, traveled up the embankment and crashed into a large tree, Akre said. Two 17-year-olds inside the second car were also transported to hospitals for moderate and minor injuries, according to Akre.
