71-Year-Old Woman Charged with Murder of Rodeo Relative

Rodeo resident Zonna Thomas was found suffering gunshot wounds that she later died from, sheriff's deputies said.

A 71-year-old woman has been charged with murder in connection with Saturday’s fatal shooting of a 69-year-old woman in the community of Rodeo, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

Linda Thomas, a resident of Washington, faces felony charges of premeditated murder and residential burglary, as well as a caretaker injuring an elder charge and two counts of using a firearm.

She was arrested following a shooting at 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Garretson Avenue in unincorporated Contra Costa County. Rodeo resident Zonna Thomas was found suffering gunshot wounds that she later died from, sheriff’s deputies said. Sheriff’s deputies were not immediately available to confirm whether the suspect and the victim were related, but an obituary published this year indicates that they were sisters.

Thomas is scheduled to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow in a Richmond courthouse, according to the district attorney’s office.
