ATM Robber Throws Woman To Ground In Hercules

Good Samaritans chased the suspect from the bank.

HERCULES, CA — Police in Hercules arrested a man in connection with a strong-armed robbery Thursday.

Ethan Willoughby, 25, of Richmond, was arrested on suspicion of robbery of an ATM customer, according to the Hercules Police Department.

Officers responded at 8:46 a.m. to the Bank of America at 1611 Sycamore Ave. on a report of a robbery.

Police said a 59-year-old woman went to the ATM to withdraw money, and when she was putting the money into her wallet, she was jumped from behind.

The victim initially tried to hold onto her wallet, but the suspect threw her to the ground, took the wallet and fled.

The bank manager called police, and two witnesses chased after the suspect.

Officers arrived at the scene as the suspect was running up an embankment toward the westbound Interstate Highway 80 ramp, and he was taken into custody.
