Don't try to work out when you're sick.
Might sound obvious to most sane people, but I tried it anyway. I had already canceled earlier in the week because I was sick, and I knew I wasn't 100%, but I didn't want to cancel again. I don't enjoy going to the gym on a good day. I was afraid that if I canceled again, I'd start getting used to not going.
So I went. And my trainer, who had no idea I was feeling so poorly, had her "Black Friday" workout ready for me. Thirteen counts each of four different exercises, then three times through the cycle. I was dying midway through the second exercise. I somehow stumbled through my first set, wheezing and sputtering all the way.

It became obvious in my second set that I wasn't long for this world, so we mercifully cut it short after three of the four exercises. Even though I knew I wasn't at my best, I felt frustrated and defeated.
Looking back, though, I'm glad I went, even though I know I shouldn't have. I tried. I failed, but I tried. Everyone's heard the old axiom "It's better to try and fail than fail to try," but this is the first time I've actually believed it.
