Steve Duran and his lame ducks attempt to bind the real council

On Dec. 4, there will be a special council meeting, at which the lame duck council (two members of which were kicked out in the election) can take decisions which will bind the real council.

Did you know that Dan Romero’s lame duck council has scheduled a special meeting for December 4?    That is just seven days before the new council, the real council, is installed in office.

The subjects tentatively scheduled to be discussed are not unimportant:   a financial review, a “housing element” (no, I have no idea), an amendment to the Parcel C PSA, and a consideration of the extension of the Finance Advisory Committee.

Councilman Wilkins and Councilman Pinocchieaux are not just lame ducks, whose terms will evaporate on December 11;  they are lame turkeys, who were actually voted out of office.    The expressed will of the people is that Wilkins and Boulanger be removed from the council.    Should these two be allowed to take substantial actions on substantial issues, at the moment their candles are flickering out, when the clearly-expressed wish of the electorate is that they leave?

Why isn’t the new council installed immediately after the election?    Election results are not certified until the first week of December.   So, fine, wait until the second Tuesday of December to install the new council members…but suspend the council meetings between the time of the election and the time of the certification.    That would involve skipping two meetings, and that is clearly not a big deal, since Steve Duran proposed doing just that, last August, so that he and “staff” could take vacations.    Suspending the meetings would prevent people like Pinocchieaux from getting into further mischief after the electorate has decided that they must go, suspending the meetings would prevent a too-powerful city manager from binding the new council with the last quacks of his lame ducks.

Anyhow, Pinocchieaux has already quacked his last quack:    he will be remembered for launching his council career with lies, and then ending it with a vicious slap at Myrna, through his attempt to get her censured.    I cannot imagine that, at the December 4 special council session, anything useful or proper can come from that particular beak.
