Community Police Academy Sign-Ups Underway In Hercules

Free to residents, the course includes jail tour, narcotics and crime scene investigations and "Shoot Don't Shoot" simulator.

HERCULES, CA — After two years on hiatus, the Community Police Academy is planned for 2022 in Hercules, according to officials.

"Are you interested in having an extensive look inside your local police department? Do you live or work in the Hercules community? Apply for the Hercules Police Department Community Academy!" the Hercules Police Department said.

The academy is a free, interactive course where participants learn about the agency's operations, including such facets as K-9 police dogs, narcotics, crime scene investigations, detectives and more.

"When you join the Hercules Community Police Academy, you will experience some of the same training that our officers receive," police said.

Among academy experiences, according to the department:

  • Police procedures, priorities and techniques of law enforcement in the community.
  • Participate in training to include: patrol procedures, crime scene investigation, identity theft and internet crime, narcotics, DUI investigation, emergency preparedness and more.
  • Experience the driving simulator, as well as experience the "Shoot Don't Shoot" simulator.
  • Tour of the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Learn about Special Response Team and how they train.

Classes run Saturdays September through November, with morning and afternoon sessions.

Applications are underway on a first-come, first-served basis, and are available on the city website and at the Hercules police lobby.
