Driver Shears Off Hercules Fire Hydrant, Flees
Apparently the driver has not mastered backing up.

HERCULES, CA — A driver who hit a fire hydrant fled the scene Saturday evening in Hercules, police said.
At 6:69 p.m., police were dispatched to 3700 San Pablo Ave. At the scene, officers located a Honda Accord parked near a busted fire hydrant that was discharging water. The driver was not in the vehicle and was not found.
According to police, a witness said that the driver backed out of a parking stall at Kinder's restaurant next door, and hit the fire hydrant, causing it to detach from the base. The driver then left the scene.

Crews from the East Bay Municipal Utility District arrived and fixed the damage, police said.
