Ellis Island Old World Folk Band

Ellis Island Old World Folk Band has been delighting Bay Area audiences for three decades. As a pioneer in the revival of klezmer-lively and soulful Eastern European Jewish music-the band has been featured in concerts, festivals, cafes and private celebrations. Ellis Island Band has been honored with awards from the cities of Berkeley, Albany and Alameda.

This performance will include both Old World and New World repertoire emphasizing the transition that took place when Jews came to America at the beginning of the last century. They will play tunes from the Yiddish theater and radio featuring some vocals made popular by the Barry Sisters who were the queens of 1940’s Yiddish swing.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Hercules Library.
