Fire in Abandoned Richmond Home Caused Estimated $35K in Damages

Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze.

A one-alarm fire in the detached garage of an abandoned or vacant home in Richmond on Tuesday caused roughly $35,000 in damages, a fire captain said today.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, fire Capt. Rico Rincon said. Initially, investigators believed that transients or squatters were living in the garage, but Rincon said fire crews did not find evidence of habitation.
