Grab & Go Kids' Planner: Father's Day Fun

Avast and belay, me hearties! It's the Patch.com weekend guide for kids!

This Sunday is Father's Day, so this week's collection of children's events and activities is dedicated to Dad. Or Mom, because chances are she's into barbecues and pirates, too — if she's cool.

1. 

Where/When: Vallejo Waterfront; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Why Go: The country’s largest pirate party will give away $5,000 in gold coins and treasure for its fifth anniversary. Little sea dogs can check out tall ships, live music, pirate encampments, nautical-inspired crafts, games, costume contests, sword fighting and ship-to-shore cannon battles.

2. 

Where/When: Lawrence Hall of Science, Berkeley; daily, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Why Go: Explore their world like never before in Dinosaurs Unearthed. Scientists, engineers, and artists designed these creatures to be as lifelike as possible. The gigantic animals open their jaws, blink their eyes, move their limbs … and more. You will walk among roaring, stomping, realistic-looking animatronic  dinosaurs, such as Tyrannosaurus rex, Stegosaurus, Apatosaurus and many more.

Pricing: $11 kids, adults $17 – discounts apply

3. 

Where/When: 10000 Skyline Blvd., Oakland; Sunday, noon-2 p.m.

Why Go: Treat Dad to a barbecue of grilled sausages, fearless franks and more at Chabot's Full Circle café.

Pricing: Free with admission

4. 

Where/When: , 2001 Refugio Valley Rd., Hercules; Saturdays, 9 a.m.-10 a.m.

Why Go: This is an introduction to the world's art by way of paintings, music puppet theater, fairytales and workshops where children may express their vision through hands-on practice. 

Pricing: $65 resident/$75 non-resident

5. Hercules Pool

Where/When: , 2001 Refugio Valley Rd., Hercules; Open Saturdays 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 1:45 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Summer heat, cool water and the chance to make a splash.
