Intermodal Transit Center Hits Milestone

City and press are alarmingly quiet on the advancement, says Waterfront Watch blog.

The city’s planned Intermodal Transit Center made serious headway this month, but the city and media was virtually mum on the issue, resident Jeffrey Wisniewski recently posted on his blog, Waterfront Watch.

In an email dated June 14, the city’s transit center consultant William Silva, updated residents and city officials on the project. He said the Federal Transit Administration issued a Record of Decision on the transit center project that would, among other things, help “the federal funding sources previously identified and "finalize the City's acquisition of the Project right-of-way,” Silva wrote.

“This is a big deal: right-of-way is required for the project to actually commence; everything is a mere tease before then,” wrote Wisniewski, about the news. Wisniewski then said he was surprised to find no press coverage and little city recognition of the accomplishment by the city.

“This would not be cause for concern if successes on this order were the norm or if this project were not so critical to the city’s recovery. But they are not and it is,” Wisniewski Wrote.

“The city should build off this success, translate the vision of the waterfront (which is becoming a reality) and blend with neighboring projects, fully define the city as one on the leading edge, create positive momentum, and develop buzz for a city that will offer something truly unique,” he wrote.
