Local Coyotes Could Be Bolder Than Normal

Nearby Pinole residents are seeing more of the wild animals around town. Are you?

Nearby Pinole residents are seeing more coyotes, moving closer to the developed side of town in search of food. It is unclear how this might affect Herculeans.

Animal control will not interfere with coyotes unless one is injured, sick or dead. The California Department of Food and Agriculture will make a note if a county makes reports to them numerous times and would take action by sending out a hunter if the situation is harmful. Contra Costa Animal Services reminds residents to be very aware of the animals and avoid areas that they are in.

Whether it be rodents, pet food, food scraps or small animals, the coyotes are just looking for a meal. It's up to us to deter them from getting dangerously close by making them feel unwelcome.
