Man, 25, Arrested on Suspicion of Fatally Shooting Wife

According to the sheriff's office, Jose Claudio Munoz was booked into Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez on $2.1 million bail.

A man was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing his wife in a domestic dispute at his home in unincorporated San Pablo on Thursday, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. Jose Claudio Munoz, 25, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies on suspicion of murder, child endangerment, and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report at 3:18 p.m. on Thursday of a woman who had been shot at hers and Munoz’s residence in the 2100 block of Galway Road, according to Contra Costa County sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim, 26-year-old Yvonne Hernandez, suffering from gunshot wounds. Deputies performed CPR until the fire department and an ambulance arrived. However, Hernandez was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

According to the sheriff’s office, Munoz was booked into Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez on $2.1 million bail. Deputies are not looking for any other suspects, Lee said. Detectives are continuing to investigate the case.
