Man Arrested For DUI Crash that Knocked Out Power to Richmond Neighborhood

3,600 residents lost power due to the outage on Sunday morning.

A man suspected of driving under the influence of drugs was arrested after crashing into a utility box in Richmond’s Marina Bay neighborhood on Sunday morning, knocking out power to some 3,600 residents, a police spokeswoman said today. The crash happened around 11:45 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Marina Bay Parkway and Breakers Boulevard, Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

Officers arrived to find a 27-year-old driver who was uninjured and found to be under the influence of methadone and marijuana, the sergeant said. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and taken to county jail. Abetkov said the man, whose name was not immediately available, was on probation for a previous DUI arrest.

The crash knocked out power to the surrounding community for several hours, according to police.
