Pinole Man, 44, Suspected of DUI in Tara Hills Crash that Seriously Injured Teen Skateboarder

The 18-year-old skateboarder suffered a head injury and was bleeding badly after being hit while on Flannery Road, CHP officials said.

A driver was booked into jail Tuesday for allegedly driving under the influence and seriously injuring a skateboarder in the Tara Hills area of Contra Costa County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at 2:25 p.m. at Mahan Way and Flannery Road, a suburban area just north of Richmond, CHP officials said. The 18-year-old skateboarder suffered a head injury and was bleeding badly after a gold Toyota Camry hit him on Flannery Road, CHP Officer Sean Wilkenfeld said. The skateboarder, a Richmond resident, was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek with serious but not life-threatening injuries, Wilkenfeld said.

The driver was identified as Trung Nguyen, 44, of Pinole, and was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, Wilkenfeld said. He may face additional charges depending on the collision report.

Wilkenfeld said that with the weather changing and schools back in session, the CHP is asking drivers to slow down and stay vigilant.
