Pinole Man Identified As I-80 Shooting Victim
The shooting caused the interstate to be shut down for hours last Thursday, through the evening commute. A fund has been set up.

A 24-year-old Pinole man who was fatally shot while in a car on Interstate Highway 80 in Richmond on Thursday has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as Demarcus Doss.
Doss and a 24-year-old San Pablo woman were shot on eastbound Highway 80 near San Pablo Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Thursday and Doss died at a hospital on Friday, according to the coroner's office. The woman is expected to survive.
Authorities have taken three people into custody in connection with the shooting -- Elliot Johnson, 24, of Richmond, and two 17-year-old boys, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Johnson has an extensive violent criminal history, including gun crimes and carjacking, CHP spokesman Officer Jonathan Fransen said on Friday.

Investigators are not yet releasing the suspects' motive in the shooting. The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office had not received the case from the CHP as of this morning to file charges.

Doss' family called him a hero for shielding his female friend from the gunfire. His family created a GoFundMe page. On the page, they described him as a "loving son, dependable brother, goofy uncle, cheerful nephew, wonderful cousin, amazing friend, determined student."
"Demarcus, a man of courage and the mentality of a protector, shielded his friend with his body," the family said on the page. "While this act was a heroic one, we are deeply saddened to have lost such an exceptional
person."
