Pinole Woman Arrested For Berkeley Carjacking

A woman who worked delivering food was pulled from her Lexus and assaulted.

BERKELEY, CA — A female suspect who was arrested in connection with a carjacking and assault in Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto on Monday morning was identified by police Wednesday as 30-year-old Myjotha Gaston of Pinole.

Police said the victim had just made a food delivery to the resident of a home in the 1600 block of Walnut Street, at Cedar Street, at 6:12 a.m. on Monday.

The victim, a woman, was sitting in her black Lexus RX 350 when a dark sedan occupied by two people pulled up, a male suspect got out and pulled her out of the Lexus and assaulted her before he drove away north on
Walnut Street in her Lexus RX 350, according to police.

Berkeley police dispatchers then entered the Lexus into their stolen vehicle system and at 9:35 a.m. on Monday were contacted by officers in a California Highway Patrol helicopter who said they had spotted the
stolen Lexus at Golden Gate Fields in Albany.

A CHP patrol vehicle tried to stop the Lexus but was involved in a collision with a second vehicle that was with the stolen Lexus, police said.

A CHP helicopter continued to follow the Lexus as it raced through Berkeley and into Oakland and the female driver, later identified as Gaston, eventually abandoned the car in the 1300 block of Mandela Parkway in West
Oakland in front of an apartment complex, according to police.

Gaston then got into another vehicle parked nearby and drove off but she crashed the second vehicle in the area of Tenth and Pine streets in Oakland, police said.

Gaston allegedly tried to flee on foot but was arrested by Oakland police, according to authorities.

Oakland officers recovered property stolen from the female victim during the carjacking in Berkeley, police said.

The male suspect is still at large.

The female victim was treated for her injuries at the scene and released.
