Plans For Vacant Sala Restaurant Put On Hold

Hercules officials postpone plans after tax liens are discovered

Plans to put a new tenant in a former restaurant in Hercules have been put on hold after tax liens on the property were discovered, according to an article in the Contra Costa Times.

The recently discovered liens include Internal Service Revenue liens totaling $59,000 against former owner Kay Sala as well as Contra Costa County liens totaling $10,000 against Sala and the restaurant, the Times reported.

Sala and co-principal Glen Cole vacated the city-owned property on Railroad Avenue in December, reportedly owing $112,000 in unpaid rent, utility bills and loan payments.

Since last fall, city officials have been trying to find a new tenant for the building. They spent $1.6 million refurbishing it so it could house a restaurant.
