Anyone with information about the crash or events leading up to it can reach CHP at (925) 646-4980.

A 59-year-old man died after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing on Saturday night in unincorporated Contra Costa County, California Highway Patrol officials said. CHP officers found the motorcyclist, identified today by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as Andrew Rance, after responding at 11:22 p.m. Saturday to a reported crash at 4940 Morgan Territory Road near the Marsh Creek Springs community east of Mount Diablo. Rance, a Richmond resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.

CHP officials said it appears the rider allowed his motorcycle to travel off the roadway and onto a dirt shoulder, where he lost control and struck a metal drainage culvert. Rance died despite wearing a full-face motorcycle helmet at the time of the collision, according to the CHP.

The crash is still being investigated, but it doesn’t seem as though other vehicles were involved, CHP officials said. Anyone with information about the crash or events leading up to it can reach CHP at (925) 646-4980.
