Richmond Woman, 46, Sentenced to 7 Years Prison in 2011 Fatal Beating
Tracey Jackson pleaded guilty to assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury .

A Richmond woman will spend seven years in prison in connection with a 2011 assault that led to a man’s death. Tracey Jackson, 46, was sentenced in a Martinez courtroom today after pleading guilty to assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury in connection with the attack leading up to the death of 51-year-old Anthony Greenwood at his home in Richmond.
Jackson also pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of ammunition and possession of stolen property in connection with a separate case. Contra Costa County Deputy District Attorney Jason Peck said Jackson and two unidentified suspects went to the victim’s apartment in the 1400 block of Costa Avenue some time on June 8, 2011.
Jackson and Greenwood had been involved in a check-cashing scheme together and the defendant believed Greenwood was keeping the proceeds to himself, according to Peck. The victim opened the door of his apartment and was attacked, although investigators still aren’t sure who assaulted him, the prosecutor said. Greenwood suffered major head injuries but refused medical treatment. He died from his injuries the following day, according to Peck.

Jackson was later arrested and charged with murder in connection with the deadly assault, while the two additional suspects were never apprehended. Peck said a neighbor who initially reported witnessing Jackson and two other people at the scene at the time of the attack later recanted his statement, making it tougher to pursue a murder case against the defendant and leading prosecutors to offer her a plea deal. The plea agreement, he said, “is a reflection of the problems of proof in the case and the fact that there were other individuals involved who played a significant role.” The victim’s family did not attend today’s sentencing hearing.
