Suspect Who Allegedly Held Woman Captive in Closet Identified

Police have identified a 35-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of forcing a woman to live in a closet at a home in Richmond’s Iron Triangle neighborhood for a year and sexually and physically abusing her. Eulogio Constantino-Sanchez, 35, was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, rape, corporal injury, false imprisonment and conspiracy, according to Richmond police.

Police said Constantino-Sanchez and a male relative were arrested after the woman was lured on Facebook from her home in Nicaragua with the promise of work and a better life in the U.S. The woman was able to contact a U.S. Department of Homeland Security agent and said she was forced to live in a closet against her will.

The agent contacted Richmond police detectives, who learned the woman was being sexually assaulted and physically abused on a daily basis, police said. Police swarmed the home where the woman was held and found her inside, along with evidence that corroborated her statements, according to police.

Richmond police and the Department of Homeland Security are continuing a joint investigation into the case.
