I-80 Shooting: Man Dies After Being Ejected from Vehicle
Investigators had closed westbound lanes of I-80 for the investigation.

RICHMOND, CA - A man died early Saturday morning when his Jeep went down an embankment after it was shot at on westbound I-80 near Richmond Parkway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities began receiving calls around 1:08 a.m. of a traffic collision on I-80 westbound near Hilltop Drive in Richmond. Officers responded to the scene and located the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle down an embankment from the freeway.
According to the CHP, a 40-year-old man was driving a silver Jeep SUV when an unknown vehicle drove alongside him and fired several rounds into the Jeep. The Jeep then drifted across the roadway and went down a steep embankment to the right of the freeway. The Jeep overturned several times and the driver was ejected from the vehicle, CHP said.

The victim was pronounced dead at approximately 1:43 a.m.
All lanes of westbound I-80 were closed while authorities investigated.

The CHP said the victim was specifically targeted. There is no danger to the public at this time.
