Would-Be Car Thieves Thwarted by Resident Who Keeps Car Chained to Pole in Front Yard

A Hercules resident thwarted a would-be car thief by keeping his 21-year-old vehicle chained to a pole in his yard, police said Friday.

The resident called police around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday to report that someone tried to steal his 1994 Honda Civic del Sol from his home in the 200 block of Dartford Street, police said.

The thief or thieves were no match for his del Sol, which police said was chained to a pole in the resident’s front yard. The suspect or suspects were unable to cut the chain, police said. No damage was done to car, according to police.
