• Students and Parents Across CA Travel to the Capitol to Support Community Schools (southkernsol.org) — Pittsburg families should know that all 13 local schools are now operating as community schools and have posted notable gains in literacy, math, and science. At a recent State Capitol hearing, Pittsburg’s teachers union president and others urged lawmakers to approve $1 billion in ongoing funding, arguing that stable support and stronger accountability will help sustain these improvements for Pittsburg students and other high‑need communities statewide.
   

• MCE board hesitates to expand chief executive's authority (marinij.com) — A regional power agency is debating whether its CEO should get authority to approve massive long-term energy contracts with minimal board oversight, raising concerns about transparency. Environmental and taxpayer advocates specifically warn this could enable financing a natural gas plant in Pittsburg, one of Contra Costa’s lower‑income communities, without robust public discussion. The board will revisit the proposal at a future meeting.
