Horrific: Elderly Couple Were Unloading Groceries When Shot, Pistol-Whipped By Robbers Wearing Halloween Masks [UPDATE]

BREAKING: Police investigating if suspects followed the Orinda couple home from the supermarket. The female victim in stable condition.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – Two men wearing Halloween masks robbed, shot and assaulted an elderly Orinda couple Monday night as they were unloading groceries in front of their home on Monday night, according to police.

The couple, both in their 70s, had just returned home from grocery shopping and were unloading their car at about 9 p.m. when they were approached by the two masked men who demanded the husband's wallet, then
pistol-whipped him and shot her, Orinda police Chief Mark Nagel said.

The woman's son reported the Claremont Avenue attack and said she was shot in the arm and hip. She was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and was in stable condition Tuesday morning, Nagel said.

The male victim was treated and released from the hospital Monday night.

Police searched the area with dogs and air support from the California Highway Patrol, but the suspects escaped on foot with the victims' wallet and purse, according to Nagel.

Officers are looking for video surveillance footage and are investigating the possibility that the suspects followed the victims home from the store, Nagel said.
