Pleasant Hill police officers will trade in their ticket books and uniforms for playing cards and poker chips as the Pleasant Hill Police Department hosts its seventh annual Texas Hold ’Em Poker Challenge – a fundraiser for Special Olympics Northern California. Registration for the Challenge – which will be held Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Pleasant Hill Teen Center – is currently open at www.TexasHoldEmSO.org.

“We are thrilled to host this event and see so many locals joining us for a great night of poker for a wonderful cause,” Pleasant Hill PD’s Support Services Supervisor Jodi Cornell said. “Whether you’re ready for the World Series of Poker or never touched chips before, this event is for you. Between the poker and knowing the event raises much needed funds for 16,760 athletes of Special Olympics Northern California, everyone has such a fun night!”

The public is cordially invited to participate in the event as a poker player or a spectator/poker beginner. For those looking to play poker, the $50 registration includes $1,000 in chips and they can receive $2,000 in chips for an additional $25. For the beginners or good luck charms, spectator tickets are available for $25. Also featured is a learner’s table, where a professional dealer will teach spectators how to play poker. If a spectator gets beginner’s luck, they can join the poker tournament for an additional donation.
