Amador Valley DECA Students Host Shrimp Tank Event

Amador Valley DECA students (Sandhya Kalavacherla, Verena Lin, and Samantha Lu) founded CreateHER to promote entrepreneurship among girls.

Three Amador Valley High School students, Verena Lin, Samantha Lu, and Sandhya Kalavacherla, recently hosted a Shrimp Tank event, which promoted entrepreneurship among elementary school aged girls. The three students, who are seniors, founded the CreateHER organization to promote entrepreneurial skills throughout the community, specifically for girls aged 6-18.

Shrimp Tank, similar to the TV show Shark Tank, was an event for elementary school students to share original ideas for start-ups. They had an overwhelming turnout of 168 students (118 girls) who joined CreateHER at their event from November 4 through November 6. Our event gave students valuable feedback and an opportunity to voice their ideas, helping to foster their entrepreneurship paths in the future.

The CreateHER organization will continue its impact in the Bay Area, teaching workshops at the Pleasanton Public library and planning more events in the near future. “As girls who have had the opportunities to get involved in entrepreneurship, we want to make sure other girls in our community have the same privilege to experience entrepreneurship and consider it as a viable career path,” said co-founder Sandhya Kalavacherla.
