PLEASANTON, CA — IKEA opened its fifth Bay Area location on Johnson Drive in Pleasanton last Wednesday. The new 2,100-square-foot “Plan and Order Point with Pick-Up” location differs from a traditional big-box location. Instead of buying home furnishings at the location, customers will meet with an IKEA employee to plan and order home furnishing solutions that may require design support, such as kitchens, bedrooms, or bathrooms. Customers can then arrange home delivery or store pick-up. Customers can also order materials online and pick up at the Pleasanton location.
Unlike other IKEA locations, there is no cafeteria or play area.
A similar location also exists in Colma, just south of Daly City. Full-service locations exist in Emeryville, Palo Alto, and San Francisco.
The Pleasanton location, located at 5755 Johnson Drive, celebrated a grand opening featuring live music, Swedish food, and giveaways. The store is now open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
“This new store location is perfect for customers who are looking to purchase affordable home furnishings, plan new design projects, and create a home they love. IKEA Pleasanton brings our signature design solutions to the Tri-Valley community,” IKEA Emeryville Market Manager Arda Akalin said in a statement.
