Burglars Hit At Least 18 Pleasanton Businesses: Police

Four suspects smashed businesses' front windows before fleeing police in a sedan without license plates, authorities said.

PLEASANTON, CA — At least 18 businesses throughout Pleasanton were burglarized Thursday morning by thieves who smashed the windows, according to the Pleasanton Police Department. No arrests were reported as of Thursday afternoon.

Pleasanton police responded to a 4 a.m. burglary alarm at the 2700 block of Stoneridge Drive, the department said. Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple businesses with broken front windows. At 4:35 a.m., PPD dispatch received a report of a commercial burglary in progress at multiple businesses in Mission Plaza on the 4300 block of Valley Avenue.

Four individuals in hooded sweatshirts were seen smashing front glass windows and leaving one business with a cash register. The suspects entered a sedan with no license plates.

Officers arrived and located the suspect vehicle, which they believe contained all suspects inside. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and pursued it to eastbound Stanley Boulevard. Officers terminated the pursuit west of Highway 84 due to safety concerns. Surrounding law enforcement agencies were notified.

Through the rest of the morning, officers say they identified at least eighteen businesses throughout the city that were burglarized, the majority of which were restaurants. According to NBC Bay Area, six restaurants at Pacific Pearl and four businesses near Santa Rita Road appear to have been targeted, including two restaurants, a nail salon, and Perry's Liquors.

Officers continue to investigate and say additional victims may be identified throughout the day. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pleasanton Police Department at 925-931-5100.

Pleasanton police said that 18 commercial burglaries were reported to them this year before Sept. 10, the same number that occurred Thursday morning.

Early morning smash-and-grab sprees targeting local businesses were also reported in Danville the morning of Sept. 1, and in San Ramon the morning of Aug. 4. In Danville, at least 14 burglaries were reported, primarily in the Crossroads Shopping Center and the 100 block of Hartz Avenue, according to town spokesperson Heather Tiernan. In each instance, several businesses reported suspects smashing their glass windows or doors and stealing cash from the registers.
