After a robot lingered outside his home, engineer Brent Werder raised concerns about how much public data is collected, how long it's stored, and who can access it, prompting a petition and detailed responses from the robot company defending its privacy practices.

Pleasanton school board to vote on contract updates for classified employees (pleasantonweekly.com) β Pleasanton Unified's school board is set to vote on a new contract for classified employees that revises work-year calendars, overtime rules, leave policies, and vacation accrual, while pausing a professional-growth program for a year. Trustees will also consider restoring degree stipends and waiving a teacher credential requirement so incoming superintendent Ed Diolazo can officially assume the role on January 1.

Tri-Valley Leaders Tackle Local Homelessness Issue (independentnews.com) β Pleasanton is lagging badly on its state-required affordable housing goals, with only about 7% of its affordable target permitted so far and most new units serving higher incomes. At a recent Tri-Valley homelessness forum in Dublin, speakers tied such shortfalls in Pleasanton, Dublin, and Livermore to rising local homelessness and stressed the need for deeply affordable housing plus ongoing support services after people are housed.

Pleasanton Man Pleads No Contest In Fatal 150 MPH San Ramon Crash (patch.com) β A Pleasanton man has pleaded no contest to three felony charges, including voluntary manslaughter and DUI causing injury, after a high-speed San Ramon crash that killed a Castro Valley nurse last November. He remains in custody on $1.2 million bail and faces sentencing Oct. 15, a case many Pleasanton residents have followed closely given his local ties.
