A Bit of France Discovered in Downtown Livermore!

There’s a new well-kept secret in town. 

It’s more than a coffee spot. More than a sandwich shop, and much more than a bread store. 

Casse-Croûte (it’s meaning: a simple meal, light lunch) is the best of all three, coddled within a genuine French bakery. 

Genuine French pressed steamed coffee, daily fresh baked flaky croissants (chocolate filling optional), fruit scones, quiches and pastries leave taste buds wanting more.

All delectable treats are created on site.

Steaming homemade soups, mouth-watering ham with bold imported cheese, and tasty tuna sandwiches add to the daily fresh menu of flavorful offerings.

Husband and wife owners Richard Denoix Boulanger and Lenore Colarusso-Denoix combined his passion for baking bread with hers to help people.  The result is this touch of France cafe called Casse-Croûte Bakery located at 50 South Livermore Ave. in the heart of downtown.

Richard, a native of France, says this is his third career.

His first, an officer in the French military. The second as a software engineer in Silicon Valley. Now five years into retirement, he is pursuing another life goal, a sort of retour aux sources (back to basics), to bake traditional French bread and pastries.

His partner wife Lenore, loves to cook, entertain and enjoys sharing her culinary delights with friends. She grew up with three siblings in a typical Italian-American family that centered on homemade food in Long Island, New York.

She retired from the corporate world after 22 years, as a director of sales. In that role, she enjoyed providing the best possible service to her clients and is looking forward to serving Casse-Croûte customers with the same enthusiasm and hospitality.

Richard and Lenore say they have been wonderfully surprised at the welcoming reception they have received from the community.  “Lines are out the door, believe it or not, Richard says with a smile, Saturday mornings are the busiest day of the week.”
