Family Photos, what do you do with all your digital files?

I hope my system of filing my family pictures does not fail me; I am really hoping someone can give me some better solutions.

Wow! What a few weeks we’ve been having in our house.  After months of living in Pleasanton I have finally given in and nagged for my husband to put up all of our art work.  I can only think I was still homesick for San Francisco and did not quite give up the ghost of my previous life.  Now the pictures are up the house really does feel like home, instead of some stark beach shack or mountain chalet rental!

My family has never really been one for framed photographs of loved ones, even though as kids I remember having our annual school picture taken religiously.  There are still some to prove it – be it stuck together in an old cruddy cardboard box in Mum’s attic.  It’s a shame because I love photographs; I take over a thousand a week.  My Mum calls me the ‘mamaratzzi’ as I am so obsessed with taking pictures of my kid.

My problem is I never delete anything and hoard all of the files on my desk top until it’s time to bulk download them to my hard drive device, which better be in operation in 20 years as this is when I intend to dust it off and embarrass my adult child!

I do have them all saved by months with the appropriate age of kidlet in the file title, all very easy to access, like never!  I do try so hard to be organized, print them off and send them to Granny Laddy, Grandma Sasha,  Great Grandma G and Great Grandma Mary – The first two are appropriately named after the owner’s dogs and the latter need nothing more than Great to pre-empt how important these lovely ladies are.  You see grannies my intentions are there.

I have to admit I try to keep long distance relatives in the loop with my child’s development week by week (even though my pictures are taken every 10 minutes)((no wonder my child spends her days parading around in sun glasses)).  The best way I have devised is save all the best pics in a Facebook album – this way my friends can see them and they are in a location I can easily find when it comes to printing them off.  I use Walgreens photo service right on Santa Rita Road, they are very quick and helpful; in fact the lady who helped me has the patience of a saint and should be rewarded with a fat and fluffy lounge chair which swivels, so she can enjoy the brief moments she’s not helping someone find the slot for their memory stick!

My Mother-In-Law hates Facebook however, but I just think it’s because I did not accept her friend request!  Why would I want her to find out what I am really like when I have done a stellar job of lulling her into a sense that I am the perfect daughter-in-law?  The only problem is that my hubby is mates with his aunt who immediately calls his Mom to discuss the latest of her grandkid’s shenanigans!  It’s all information over load really.  It was so much easier when one posted a school photo depicting one’s winter upper lip rash wearing an identical outfit; yes all of us, male and female!
