First Wednesday Street Parties Start Wednesday

Summer doesn't really start in Pleasanton until the First Wednesday Street Parties have resumed.

In Pleasanton we had a week of good weather in March, then another hot week in April. We are teased thinking summer is starting, but in my opinion summer doesn’t really start until the have begun.

There are five street parties each year, on the first Wednesdays of May through September — starting Wednesday.

This is where Pleasanton residents crowd Main Street and browse what is on offer. Many clubs and communities advertise their services or sell their wares. If you are new to Pleasanton, you can be sure you can find a realtor, a chiropractor, a church, and multiple activities for your children just by walking down Main Street any first Wednesday in the summer.

This is your chance to support local artists and businesses. In May, Laura from My Meaningful Art will have a stall selling her handmade watercolor name art. Each piece is unique and made to order. Look out for her stall.

There are also charities to support, the police and firemen to meet, music to listen to and many stalls selling drinks and food. You will need to take a bag for all the free samples that are handed out or won by spinning large wheels. Just be careful you don’t give out your name and email address too may times!

Each street party has a different theme. My favorite is the Pooch Parade where many dogs get dressed up and parade down Main Street.

So come out and enjoy Pleasanton every first Wednesday during the summer. But here’s a warning for this year only. Because July 4th falls on a Wednesday, the First Wednesday Street Party will be on the Second Wednesday in July.

And if you see me there, be sure to say hello.
