Fire officials say the blaze could have potentially threatened homes in Ruby Hill.

"First arriving firefighters found an active fire within 100 feet of a home moving at a moderate speed through tall, dry grasses," Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Battalion Chief Joe Testa said. "Had the initial actions of firefighters not been able to contain this fire, it would have likely spread to hundreds of acres and threatened homes in the area around Ruby Hill," Testa said.

According to Testa, the fire started near a construction site on a hillside and investigators do not believe it was arson. No one was injured in the fire and no structures were damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

"This fire serves as a reminder to use caution when around the dry grass areas of this region as even a
small spark can lead to a large fire," Testa said. "Mowing and weed abatement should be done in morning hours using equipment with spark arrestors. Any device that creates heat or sparks should be avoided altogether around these areas. This includes things like metal cutting tools, plumbing torches and even and even
cigarettes."
