BREAKING: Trio Arrested After Three Consecutive Residential Burglaries

Police credit vigilant residents for helping to identify and arrest the suspects.

Attentive Pleasanton residents helped police identify and arrest of a trio of residential burglary suspects on Thursday, according to police. The suspects, all in their late teens, were arrested following an incident that began at 9:36 a.m. at a home on Heatherlark Circle in Pleasanton, police said. Police said a call came in from a resident who saw the juvenile suspect “prowling around” behind her home.

The suspect apparently vaulted over a fence and fled when he was spotted. Police said the resident likely interrupted a burglary. About an hour later, a homeowner on South Valley Trails called in another burglary at a neighbor’s home roughly half a mile away from the initial attempted burglary, police said.

Three male suspects, whose provided descriptions were identical to the first call, pulled alongside a home in a vehicle, police said. Two of the suspects exited the car and entered the home’s backyard while the driver remained by the car. Responding police officers made contact with the driver.

They conducted a search of the home that confirmed it had been broken into through a rear window, but the two suspects were not located inside. Police said that within 10 minutes, an undercover officer driving along Hopyard Road near Valley Avenue found two people matching the suspects’ descriptions walking near a shopping area.

While waiting for other officers to arrive, the undercover officer allegedly observed the suspects stashing an article of jewelry under a car. A later search of the suspects’ vehicle yielded property stolen in an unreported burglary in Heatherlark Circle, according to police. The suspects, all San Jose residents, were arrested on counts of burglary and conspiracy.

Police identified two of the suspects, both 18 years old, as Christian Castro-Betancourt and Juan Garcia-Rincon. Both were booked into Santa Rita Jail. The third suspect, who is 17 years old, was released from the police station to the custody of his mother with a notice to appear in court, police said.
