Anthony Wonsey brings Sobriety Sessions to Meyhouse Jazz — a powerful night of modern hard bop, fresh arrangements, and spontaneous musical exchange.
A former member of Elvin Jones’ Jazz Machine, Wonsey has performed with Kenny Garrett, Roy Hargrove, Nnenna Freelon, Wallace Roney, Nicholas Payton, Clark Terry, Phil Woods, Jeremy Pelt, and many other leading voices in jazz. His playing is known for its dynamic touch, deep swing, and highly responsive musical conversation.
Sobriety Sessions is one of Wonsey’s most personal programs, featuring original music and fresh arrangements shaped by clarity, renewal, and a new lease on life.
For this performance, Wonsey leads a dynamic quartet with Ivan Polyanskiy on alto saxophone, Billy Edwards on bass, and Sylvia Cuenca on drums.
Expect expressive modern jazz rooted in hard bop and post-bop, but created in the moment.
