Charges Expected Soon Against Woman Suspected In Fatal San Ramon DUI Crash: DA
Pleasanton resident Yarenit Liliana Malihan was arrested following the tragic 2016 collision that killed 3-year-old Elijah Dunn.
PLEASANTON, CA — Officials with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office say charges against a Pleasanton woman arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter in September of 2016 will likely be filed within a few weeks. Deputy District Attorney Derek Butts did not specify what charges will be filed against Yarenit Liliana Malihan but said a final decision about the case, which was submitted by California Highway Patrol investigators in January of 2017, is expected soon.
Malihan, 39, the wife of an Alameda County Sheriff’s deputy, was arrested on Sept. 9, 2016, by CHP officers after a fatal crash on I-680 in San Ramon that killed Elijah Dunn, 3, and seriously injured his siblings and mother.
Following her September arrest, Malihan was treated for minor injuries at San Ramon Regional Medical Center and booked into the county jail. Malihan was driving on a provisional license the night of the tragic crash as the result of another alleged DUI-related crash in Pleasanton in June. According to Alameda County Court records, Malihan was arrested in June of 2016 and faces three charges, including child cruelty and driving under the influence, which were filed in August.
