Local Girl Scout Earns Silver Award Through Rabbit Care and Adoption Education Project

Pleasanton, CA — Pleasanton rising ninth grader Kiwi Doshi has completed her Girl Scout Silver Award by creating an educational video series focused on rabbit care and adoption in collaboration with RabbitEARS, a local rabbit rescue organization.

For her Silver Award project, Kiwi combined her passion for animals with her interest in storytelling and media production to create videos designed to help current and prospective rabbit owners better understand the responsibilities of rabbit care and the importance of adoption.

Kiwi developed the project from start to finish. She researched and wrote the scripts, filmed the videos, and completed the editing herself. Over the course of the project, she dedicated nearly 60 hours to planning, production, editing, and completing the requirements for her Girl Scout Silver Award.

The videos address important topics for people considering adopting a rabbit, helping viewers learn more about proper rabbit care and what it takes to provide a safe, healthy, and loving home. By making this information accessible through engaging videos, Kiwi hopes to help prospective adopters make informed decisions and better understand the commitment involved in rabbit ownership.

The project also provided meaningful support to RabbitEARS volunteer lead James Moe and his team of volunteers. James has experienced physical limitations that have made it increasingly difficult to take on every aspect of the rescue organization’s educational and outreach work. Kiwi’s project helped provide RabbitEARS with professionally produced educational content that the organization can use to reach a broader audience without adding to the workload of its volunteers.

For Kiwi, the project was about more than completing a Girl Scout requirement. It gave her the opportunity to identify a real need in her community, develop a project to address that need, and see it through from an initial idea to a finished product.

The Girl Scout Silver Award is the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. It challenges girls to identify an issue they care about, take action, and create a lasting impact in their community. Kiwi’s project reflects those goals by combining service, creativity, leadership, and animal advocacy.

Through nearly 60 hours of work behind the camera, Kiwi not only completed an important Girl Scout milestone but also created a resource that can continue benefiting RabbitEARS, its volunteers, and families interested in rabbit adoption.

As Kiwi prepares to enter ninth grade, her Silver Award project demonstrates how a young person can use her own skills and interests to make a meaningful contribution to her community—and leave behind something that continues to help others long after the project is complete.
